Our Case for Support
At the Home Instead Foundation of Canada, we see the opportunities a growing aging population creates. Older adults enrich our communities and our lives. The Foundation is committed to protecting the quality of life for all aging adults, with the intent that everyone has the opportunity to age with dignity and independence. But we can’t do it alone.
The aging population is rapidly growing, yet our society is not prepared to handle this exponential growth. Every day in Canada, 1,000 people are turning 65 years old and this growth isn’t expected to stop until 2030. Government funding is not keeping pace and charitable organizations are providing more services and programs with less funding. In 2017, it was estimated that 238,000 (3.9 percent) of the aging population was living in poverty, and with the population growing rapidly every day, that number will only increase.
The Foundation is leading the effort to inspire greater charitable giving in support of aging adults, and we won’t stop until the nation’s largest grant makers, as well as donors at the grassroots level, are committed to helping less fortunate older adults. We believe our work to help charitable organizations increase their capacity to care for aging adults in need will have the greatest impact on those who need it most.
